Zorah Voski 2023
Vayots Dzor, Armenia ( 75 cL )
The freshness of Armenia’s high-altitude white grapes
Voski combines equal parts Voskehat and Garan Dmak, two of Armenia’s distinctive indigenous white varieties. The 30–40-year-old ungrafted vines grow at 1,400 metres, in poor, sandy limestone-rich soils.
Fermented with native yeasts in raw-concrete vats, the wine is aged there for 11 months before spending a further six months in bottle. Floral and fruity on the nose, with pear, peach and citrus notes, it is generous and textured on the palate, lifted by fresh acidity and a subtle mineral character.
Founded by Zorik Gharibian, Zorah is based in Rind, in Vayots Dzor, one of Armenia’s great high-altitude wine regions. The estate focuses on indigenous grape varieties, with vineyards planted at around 1,400 metres above sea level.
Poor, stony limestone-rich soils, wide diurnal temperature shifts and ungrafted vines give the wines their distinctive freshness and structure. In the cellar, Zorah combines concrete vats with karas, traditional Armenian clay amphorae, bringing together ancient winemaking heritage and contemporary precision.
